Our History
Marine Concepts was founded in 1981 by Charles (Ron) Johnson and George Jefferies. They wanted to share their idea of the prefect Florida sailboat. Based on the design of L. Francis Herreshoff's Carpenter, the Sea Pearl was born. It was debuted in 1982 at the Miami Boat Show. It has undergone modifications and improvements along the way but is still considered to be the prefect shallow draft sailboat.
Marine Concepts has been owned and operated by Jim Leet since Ron retired in 2002. Jim is Ron's brother-in-law so we have kept it Family Owned and Operated. Jim is a skilled craftsman with experience in not only crafting the Sea Pearl but in restoration of any kind of boat. He can make any vessel look new again! Sea Pearls have been sold to owners all over the United States and have made some amazing journeys. You can read one of the adventures by clicking the link below and viewing some videos on the LINKS page. We also have many faithful followers on Face book and other social media. In remembrance of Ron Johnson
Charles R. Johnson passed away on August 7, 2009 at the age of 74. Ron was survived by his loving wife and sidekick, Sammye, 4 daughters, 8 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren with more added yearly. He was a devoted family man with so many pursuits it was hard to keep up! He was a scuba diver, water skier, fisherman, white water canoeist, kayaker, sailor, boat designer and builder, avid golfer, and an author of two novels. He is missed by many.
